| About KRGI KRGI-AM 1430 is Grand Island's heritage community radio station. First signing on the air April 1st, 1953, KRGI's call letters stood for "Radio Grand Island" then... and still today over 50 years later. Listeners know and count on KRGI for round the clock community news, weather, Ag and sports information along with the nation's most popular talk show hosts. The biggest names in radio are on KRGI including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dr. Laura, Dave Ramsey and Jim Bohannon make KRGI the most popular information station in Central Nebraska. KRGI has the ONLY radio news department in Grand Island...the third largest city in Nebraska... with information presented by people dedicated to news, sports and talk information. From the 1967 flood, the seven tornado's of 1980, the flooding in 2005 and sandbagging operations to the winter of 2007 devastating ice storm, severe weather information and community service when it counts the most is what KRGI is all about. In fact, KRGI AM 1430 and sister station Country 96 KRGI FM were the only stations on the air for several days following the 2007 winter ice storm, providing critical news and information to listeners throughout Central Nebraska. When stormy skies threaten, radio dials turn to AM 1430. News yes...weather of course, and sports...absolutely the most on the radio dial. KRGI broadcasts more local sports broadcasts than ANY other Grand Island radio station. KRGI and sister stations KRGI-FM & Star 97.3 combine to provide home and away coverage of every high school football from the three Grand Island high school's each fall along with the most extensive high school basketball and volleyball sports action in the city. Daily sportscasts provide ongoing year round sports coverage for local, state and national sports action. KRGI is the home and away voice of the Cornhuskers.
